About the BDC Championship League

 BDC Team GB Dance Squad Selection Criteria

The top 12 couples and top 12 solo dancers in each grade, based on the BDC Championship League rankings, will be invited to participate in the BDC Team GB Dance Squad in conjunction with BCDC.

Selection will be determined using the current BDC Championship League ranking chart at the time invitations are issued. Invitations are subject to acceptance and compliance with squad requirements and commitments.

The BDC Team GB Dance Squad aims to bring together the highest-ranked couples and solo dancers to represent Great Britain, promote excellence in dance sport, and provide opportunities for athlete development and international representation.

 

Scholarship Awards

The top two ranked couples and top two ranked solo dancers in each grade and discipline will be awarded a scholarship contribution towards expenses to attend the WDC World Championship during the current season.

 

International Representation Opportunities

Membership of the BDC Team GB Dance Squad provides couples and solo dancers with opportunities to represent Great Britain at prestigious events across the world.

Couples and solo dancers selected to represent BDC  Team GB internationally will be chosen primarily based on the current BDC Championship League ranking chart at the time invitations are issued, together with their professionalism, commitment to the squad, and conduct while representing Great Britain abroad.

 

Opportunities include:

  • International representation at competitions and championships throughout Europe, the USA, and Asia.

  • Selection for team matches, exhibition events, and gala performances.

  • Participation in WDC World Championships, World Cup events, and overseas training camps.

  • Eligibility for travel grants and scholarship support.

 

The BDC Team GB Dance Squad seeks to inspire excellence, foster international collaboration, and provide British dancers with opportunities to compete and perform on the world stage while proudly representing Great Britain.

 

Annual Recognition Awards

Top-ranked dancers from each category and discipline will be invited to attend the BDC Annual Red Carpet Gala Night.

Awards will be presented to the highest-ranked couples and solo dancers in each category based on the final BDC Championship League rankings for the season.

Squad Eligibility

Invitations may be extended throughout the season to BDC members based on ranking updates, eligibility, and availability.

All squad members are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, sportsmanship, and conduct while representing Team GB both nationally and internationally.

Membership of the Team GB Dance Squad is a privilege and carries the responsibility of acting as ambassadors for British dance sport at all times.

 

BDC Team GB Dance Squad Leadership & Governance

 

Professional Assistant Coaches

Professional Assistant Coaches will be invited to work with each squad throughout the year to support dancers development and performance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Training delivery and technical support

  • Competition preparation management

  • Athlete mentoring and development

  • Choreographic and performance assistance​

 

Competitors' Leadership Group

Team Captain

The Team Captain will be selected annually from the BCDC Professional competitors.

Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a liaison between dancers and coaches

  • Promoting Team GB values and culture

  • Supporting new squad members

  • Representing the interests of squad dancers

Vice-Captain

The Vice-Captain will be appointed annually and will assist the Team Captain in supporting squad members.

 

 

Safeguarding Officer

Responsible for athlete welfare, safeguarding procedures, and compliance with governing body regulations.

Media & Communications Coordinator

Responsible for:

  • Social media management

  • Public relations

  • Promotion of Team GB activities and achievements

Fundraising & Sponsorship Coordinator

Responsible for:

  • Sponsor relations

  • Fundraising initiatives

  • Community engagement

 

Dancers Commitments

All squad members are expected to:

  • Attend Team GB training camps, workshops, and official events

  • Uphold the values and reputation of Team GB and the BDC

  • Wear official BDC Team GB apparel at designated events

  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and sportsmanship at all times

  • Support fellow athletes and promote a positive team culture
